Pastor's Corner: November 2024

One of my favorite parts of my day is my commute.  Over the last few weeks, I have been amazed by the beauty around me with the changing of the leaves on the trees.  I, believe it or not, actually have a few trees on my commute I consider to be my favorites.  They all have a similar color pallet to them, but they remind me of beauty.

I love the way God uses these everyday things, like trees, to remind me of Him.  As I drive, I get awestruck at the beauty of something that is so ordinary.  Those trees were always there, but I never took the time to actually notice and appreciate them.

Each morning, I keep getting struck by the beauty of the ordinary.  Each day the sun rises, the sun sets. But lately, I have been paying more attention to the details.  The vibrancy of the sunrises and sunsets, the beauty of the trees, the life that is flowing all around me.

And yet, God still chooses me.  All of these wonderful, beautiful, awe inspiring creations are around me, but God still wants me. It has made me truly in awe of Him. God has made so many wonderful things that we get to enjoy, but He desires to be in a relationship with us.

That is something I never want to take for granted.

Psalm 104 is a beautiful passage about all the many wonderful things God has done.  I love this little snippet from it.  Verse 24 says, “O Lord, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures” (Psalm 104:24, NLT)

Later, Jesus reminds us that God takes care of all that He has made, and God will care for us too.  Jesus says these words: “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? (Matthew 6:26, NLT).

We are much more valuable than the birds we see, the sunrises and sunsets, the trees changing colors.  God loves us so much that He sent us Jesus in order for us to be in a right relationship with Him.

The leaves changing create wonder, but the fact that God considers me valuable - creates awe.  I am not perfect, but yet I am still valuable.  Good news, you are too!

Take time this week to consider the beauty around you and consider that God calls you more valuable than all you can see.  He loves you.
