Pastor's Corner: December 2024

I don’t really understand how, no matter what way you put them in storage, they always end up a tangled mess.  So my siblings and I would create a game out of the whole ordeal.  We would see who could untangle their lights the fastest.

This, of course, also led to arguments between us because one of us would have one more difficult than the others, or someone would claim theirs was longer, or someone, somehow, cheated.

This time of year can feel like Christmas lights - a jumbled mess that we try our best to untangle, we try to test different ways to do the holidays to see if that somehow brings us peace, and we find ourselves feeling more burnt out, rather than filled with joy, awe, and wonder at the love of God.

Christmas is a great time to spend with family and friends.  It is a wonderful time to be generous, to share with one another, to love each other.  However, those things are not the reason to celebrate.  We are to celebrate because of Jesus.

Jesus brings to us all we need in this life.  But, we seem to have made a tangled mess of things, especially this time of year dedicated to the wonderful miracle of His birth.

So what would it look like to unwrap Christmas this year? To untangle the mess and, once again, be filled with wonder, joy and love for what God has done.

Join us in December as we “unwrap” Christmas together.
